Description
This black handcrafted pearlite box has Aboriginal art carvings on the lid and sides. It measures 7.25″ long x 5″ wide X 3″ high. It is in very good condition with the exception of a small nick on the inside of the lid. It can be seen on the photo showing the inside of the lid, on the bottom left corner. It has a label on the bottom of the box “Handcrafted Pearlite, Vancouver Canada”. Estimated to be 1970’s or 1980’s.
Although technically not the same as other types of stone, perlite is used in many carvings. It is much lighter than stone, and is described as being a type of volcanic glass. It also contributes to the hydration of obsidian, which is also volcanic glass. So in spite of the way it is formed, it is still considered to be rock.
