Description
This is one of David Taub Distinctive Dresses, which I believe were made in Montreal. It does not have a label indicating country of origin, but I have a few other fifties dresses with David Taub labels, that do have the Montreal label.
This two piece dress is made of a lustring silk twill, with a base goldenrod colour, brown paint brush stripes, and large abstract flowers and leaves, adorning the top of the dress. The dress portion, has a metal back zip. The top is slip like, in a solid gold colour. The skirt is lined, and has a slit up one side. The pattern on the skirt is striped, with some leaves and flowers, spilling down around the waistline. The top also has a metal back zip, and is lined. Estimated size 8. The dress measures bust 36″ waist 26″ hips 36″ length 41″. The top that goes over the dress measures bust 38″ waist 36″ hips 38″ and length 22″. It does not have the original belt. I have a number of vintage belts on hand and tried it with different ones, but it interrupts the pattern on the front, in particular, the big gorgeous flower and leaves, and looks better without it. It appears the hem has been let down, and re hemmed somewhere along the line. Otherwise the condition is excellent. The only label is the designer’s name.
