Description
Masterfully crafted Viking pin with a Viking ship scene, the people and the sails – in an intricate nouveau style. You can see the nostrils flaring on the dragon head that is on the prow of the ship. During the Viking age, it was a common practice to mount a serpent or dragon head on the prow to frighten off sea monsters and evil spirits. The practice survived for many years and is shown on the Bayeux Tapestry. It has a rich, even patina therefore I did not clean it. It measures 1 3/4″ diameter. It has three sterling marks V, and RA stamped on the back
