Description
This pin measures 2.75″ x 2″. It has rows of marcasite under the curved metal on one side. It is signed and numbered, and is attributed to Marcel Boucher.
When I picked up this pin, I immediately thought it was a Boucher pin. But when I saw the unusual scripted Avon signature and number, I was stymied because it was not the typical Avon signature, and did not look like Avon at all. As it turns out, it is a completely different company, and there were a limited number of Boucher designs under this name. Marcel Boucher created designs under the same numbering system as the other Boucher designs for this obscure Canadian company.
The following information is from Vintage North. This website gives a very good outline of the history of Boucher and numbering system. “AVON of BELLEVILLE: Much of AVON of BELLEVILLE jewelry was designed by Boucher and although having the AVON of BELLEVILLE signature also has Boucher’s signature 4-digit design numbers. Boucher used to visit his mother in Canada because she emigrated to Montreal, Quebec.”
