Description
This one of a kind vintage shell necklace has large disc shaped shells. It probably came from Hawaii where the cowrie shells grow quite large. I have to admit I struggled to identify this organic shell. I had to rule out bone, tortoise shell, and various other types of shell. It is spotted on both sides. The largest disc measures 1.75″ in diameter. Each one has unique striations and colouring. It also has smaller organic beads. The front shell portion measures 12″ and features a total of thirteen gradient size shells. The overall length is 28″. It has a hook clasp and although it is difficult to date, it is estimated to be 1950’s – 1970’s. It is in very good condition.
