Description
This incredible necklace has individually made beads. The larger ones are made of gilded hand decorated pink mother of pearl. Each of the red bakelite pieces are carved in a single smooth piece, with a stylized geometric top. The smaller beads on the necklace are all different shapes and shades of red and amber colours. I think they are made of a mix of wood and amber. It is quite an ingenious design. Between the 1930’s and 1950’s the use of fruit and vegetables was a trend in jewelery designs.
Estimated to be 1940s or so. The MOP pink beads would be classified as antique because of the way they are made. They each have cut slabs of pearl layered around each bead, and gilded. Each red pepper is impeccably carved.
The necklace measures 21″ long, and each red chili pepper measures 2″ long. The white MOP beads are .5″ long. It has a barrel clasp made of brass.
